Baltimore - The Charmed City

Baltimore is known as the Charm City – and I must admit, I was charmed by it.  Since I was tasked with shipping my son’s vehicle to Germany at the Port of Baltimore, I thought I might as well spend some time poking around the city.

It was a pleasant, stress-free six-hour drive from Cleveland to Baltimore. As always, the AAA TripTik provided accurate, easy-to-follow directions. (And I still don’t trust a GPS.)

My home for my two-night stay was the Hampton Inn Downtown Convention Center. This Three Diamond hotel is located across the street from Oriole Park at Camden Yards and close to a couple of attractions that I was planning to visit. Public transit stops are just a few blocks away.... Read More

A Century of Delights at Ocean City Boardwalk

Submitted by Inspector 64, July 27, 2011
Ocean City Boardwalk offers a ton of restaurants and food stands for hungry and thirsty folks “strolling the boards.” In addition to favorites like funnel cakes, slushies, ice cream and pizza, you’ll find national chains and bars that serve beer by the bucket. Here’s a sampling of spots that have stood the test of time.

By tradition, douse them in salt and cider vinegar. (Don’t even ask for ketchup as Thrasher’s believes it masks the flavor of the potatoes.) ... Read More

Submitted by Ed Kiggins, April 6, 2011
Assateague Island, Maryland
Ed shared his journey to Assateague - his first experience with an RV - in This Is How We Roll. Now, the destination:

We arrived at Assateague State Park long after the welcome center had closed, but we had no trouble finding our oceanside site. The back-up camera made maneuvering the RV onto the pad effortless and, with the parking brake set and a fair-sized road trip’s worth of pent-up energy to expend, we emerged from the RV to thrust ourselves onto the landscape in the full moon’s light. That’s when we spotted the first horse. ... Read More

On The Road With Sally, Part 4: Baltimore

Submitted by Sally Doran, July 22, 2009
Baltimore's Inner Harbor

This is fourth in a series of entries from blogger Sally Doran on her summer road trip (find previous here).

“Good morning, Baltimore! Every day’s like an open door….”

Tracy Turnblad belts out her love for her hometown in the opening song from the musical and movie, Hairspray, which I must admit is a favorite of mine.  I just can’t get that song out of my head as I arrive to... Read More
