Pet Passenger Safety

As more drivers take along their furry family members on road trips, day trips and even local errands, the potential for crashes increases with the incidence of risky behaviors. Some of these behaviors were identified in a recent survey by AAA and Kurgo, a leading pet travel product manufacturer. ... Read More

Lesson Learned About Pet Restraints

This article was written by Sue France, who works in Brand Management at AAA's national office.

Car travel with my dog has always been a big deal. Not because Schotzie is a big dog. She’s a 24-pound miniature schnauzer. But, as much as I hate to admit it, my sweet little Schotzie has never been very well-behaved when riding in the car. Knowing this, I have always used the seat belts to strap her hard-sided crate in the back seat. It’s not that easy to do, but strapping her crate in provides a secure way to cut down on doggie distractions when we travel locally or farther.... Read More

Travel Safely With Your Pet

Submitted by Susan Long, May 27, 2010

I have an embarrassing admission to make — although I consider myself a responsible and loving dog owner and go to great lengths to ensure the safety and health of Hope, my 70-pound, yellow-lab mix best friend, I had never used a pet harness on her when we traveled by car, until recently. She’s over five … years, not months. I know, I know, not very smart, but it just hadn’t occurred to me.... Read More

Traveling With Your Pet Survey

Submitted by Community Manager, October 28, 2009

28% of those who travel with pets indicate they would rather travel with their pet than with their significant other. That's according to a survey released today by AAA and Best Western International. Of course, as one of my colleagues quipped, sometimes the pet is the significant other. The survey also found:

• 35% of pet-owning respondents admitted to sneaking their pet into a hotel or motel in the past.
• More than three-quarters of traveling pet owners would take their pet on every vacation if they could, although more... Read More
