Q&A: A Taste of Cruise Line Dining

Submitted by Community Manager, March 16, 2009
Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Dining
Question: Dianne asks: A year ago I cruised on Princess Lines through the Panama Canal. Everything was wonderful but I found the food to be average. Which cruise line rates the best food?

Answer: Scott Campbell, AAA Manager Cruise Relations, answers: Well, food is a very subjective topic but I’d be happy to let you in on my favorite places to eat on several cruise lines. I enjoy the specialty restaurants found onboard many ships including: the Pan-Asian Tamarind on Holland America Line’s Eurodam (see recent blog post), the Crown Grill on several Princess Cruise ships which features an open kitchen where passengers can watch chefs prepare their meals, and Palo on Disney Cruise Line which is an adult-only Italian restaurant. (Keep in mind there may be a small additional fee to eat in the specialty restaurants on some ships but it’s a steal compared to eating similar meals in “land restaurants.”) For true “foodies” consider sailing on one of the Uniworld Boutique River Cruises Epicurean Adventures; it includes private wine tasting, special wine and food pairing dinners, and culinary demonstrations which are rivaled only by the scenery along Europe’s rivers.

I went on my first cruise last week with Carnival. Although I wouldn't rate the food as fine dining for the price of the cruise ($299 for 4 days) the food was excellent - much better than I was expecting.
