Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Question: Kate. R  asks: Taking the family to Myrtle Beach, SC for a week .  Recommendations on what to do in addition to beach time?

Answer:  Debra Moore, auto travel manager and Edith Smitherman, travel sales specialist for AAA Carolinas in Charlotte answers:
-For shopping we like Broadway At The Beach, Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle and the Tangers Outlet Mall.  At Tangers, show your AAA card at Customer Service and receive a savings booklet.
-With over 120 golf courses and 40 mini-golf courses, it would be hard to spend a week here and not tee up at least once. For mini-golf with a view, try Mr. Atlanticus.
-The Dixie Stampede and Medieval Times dinner shows are popular and also offer a AAA discount. For music, The Carolina Opry, Good Vibrations, The Alabama Theater and House of Blues are good choices.
-Try your hand at fishing or just take a walk on one of the piers. For more sea life, check out Ripley’s Aquarium.

The true attraction of Myrtle Beach/Grand Strand are the more than 60 miles of beachfront, however, if you want to wander a bit there are some real gems you should not miss while in Myrtle Beach.

A trip to Murrells Inlet's Brookgreen Gardens (an AAA Gem attraction) is a great day away from the beach, where you can stroll in incredible gardens and outdoor sculpture...they even offer boat tours. Murrells Inlet also has many great AAA Diamond rated restaurants and great shops.

Keep driving south from Murrells Inlet and spend a few hours walking around historic Georgetown, SC.

If you find yourself on the northern end of the Grand Strand, the town of Little River is a nice place to spend a few hours.
