Disneyland’s World of Color

The new World Of Color show
Written by AAA Travel Disney specialist Fay Dallas.

I remember Sunday nights, waiting in anticipation for Tinker Bell to appear with that wonderful wand that would cover my television screen with shades of magical color.  Fast forward to the present.  This time the color wasn’t on a small solid screen, but rather on moving water, waving in rhythm to wonderful music, interjected with fire, as the World of Color premiered at Disneyland Resort in Southern California.  What a rush!
World of ColorFrom the bridge over Paradise Bay that goes into the Paradise Pier area of Disney California Adventure Park, I had a perfect view of this brand new “beyond spectacular” show.  It’s amazing to think that images can be so clearly projected onto water.  And while I was too enchanted by the magnitude and the memories the various music and images evoked to think too much about the technicalities during the half hour show, it was fun to read the statistics afterward:

World of ColorWell over 1000 programmable fountains work together to create magic as images from Disney classic animated features are seen on one often world’s largest projected water screens, 19,000 square feet in size!  It took 50 animators from Disney and Pixar to create the show.  The soundtrack is performed by over 100 musicians and a choir of over 100 voices.  This amazing production took over 5 months to program!World of Color

This summer, reserved viewing for World of Color can be obtained in conjunction with picnic or dinner packages.  It’s also a FastPass attraction.  This is a must-see.  Years from now I wonder if I’ll be comparing the World of Color to something even more spectacular.  Probably, as the Disney Imagineers continue to create the unimaginable!  But for now I can’t wait to get back  to experience the World of Color again.

Wow. This looks like an awesome show. Since the opening of the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage ride, I've been waiting for a reason to go back to Disneyland, and this looks like it. One of the beauties of a Disney vacation is that there's always something new and exciting to experience.

Whew! Very nice. Disneyland never fails to amaze us. We'll be going to Disneyland in Hogkong this August maybe, can't wait for the happenings there too.

Be sure to punch your Fast Pass Card as soon as you arrive at California Adventures....this reserves the area where you are assigned to watch the show. People who sign up first get the best areas.

The Disneyland Resort has really outdone itself with World of Color.

I remember the excitement years ago when Fantasmic premiered and how incredible the show was (and still is!) and the excitement around that. But World of Color brings the use of light, water and Disney magic to entirely new level. They have found the perfect way to make the World of Color leap from the TV sets of yesterday to the technologically driven theme park world of today.

Beyond being a technological wonder, the show seamlessly weaves snippets from a wide variety of Disney classic films (both old and new) so that it appeals to Disney fans of all ages. This show will make you feel good, will bring back wonderful memories as well as evoke new ones by the exhilaration it provides. The show's creators did a wonderful job of developing a fun pre-show, with large scale colorful puppets of Tigger, Alladin and the like. They also brought the show "into" the crowd a bit too. I will leave it at that so I don't spoil any surprises for anyone.

I took advantage of a World of Color dining package at Disney California Adventure's Wine Country Trattoria which included a preferred seating Fast Pass for the show. Priced at $39.99 per person, the meal was good though not great but it was filling. The dessert sampler was just enough for me and my companion. But the reason for the package was knowing we would have a prime location for the show and that made it worth the money. I would definitely do it again but might try Ariel's Grotto next time around.

I look forward to experiencing World of Color again. Hopefully I can work my way out to the west coast again to see it. Maybe in 2012 when I plan to visit Radiator Springs and Cars Land once it opens! Till then, I will have to rely on some colorful memories of show.

World of Color is definitely worth the effort to see. My only disappointment was I could only see it once on my visit.

Your comment about waiting for Disney shows to start on Sunday nights sure brings back memories!

Thanks to Carmen for suggesting the dining package as a great way to see the World of Color display. I was at Disneyland in late April, so I just missed this show...I'll have to try to get back soon!
