The declaration by U.S. officlals that the Deepwater Horizon Oil well is considered permanently plugged was welcome news to all who have been following this months-long story. Cleanup efforts continue, and conditions are currently as follows:
Currently, the only Gulf beach closures are in Louisiana at Grand Isle State Park and Fourchon Beach in Jefferson Parish. Grand Isle’s Fort Pike State Historic Site is closed for use as an oil containment command center, however, the campground is still open. As a service to travelers, AAA has been providing information on oil-related Gulf of Mexico beach closures as designated by local and regional officials.on AAA.com's
