We are going to Santa Rosa Beach, FL. What is the status of the Gulf oil spill there?
Last summer’s oil spill is no longer affecting that area or any Florida, Alabama, Mississippi or Texas Gulf destination, nor are there any reported residual beach issues. Currently, the only Gulf beach closure is in Louisiana at Grand Isle State Park. Enjoy your trip.
Scheduled to see 2 shuttle launches STS-134 & 135. What are the best locations to observe, including paid access type locations if applicable?
We did a
blog post on this subject that might we helpful to you, and it also links to
this page about best public viewing areas for shuttle launches. All other options are no longer available (in the past, there was the ability to sign up for a lottery to get a car pass to get closer or tickets for the Kennedy Space Center paid viewing areas, but those have sold out) – the interest in these final launches is huge and there will be big crowds and bigger traffic jams after the launch (or scrub, as sometimes happens.) Please plan to go to any of the public viewing areas very early, and pack your patience. If you do not have accommodations yet, look into that and map your route on
TripTik Travel Planner and good luck!
I am a senior and will be traveling alone to San Francisco to visit the CA Academy of Sciences. I have no budget limitations, but thought it would be better to stay nearby. Where would you recommend I stay?
Please
click here to be taken to a map pinpointing the CA Academy of Sciences in TripTik Travel Planner. The blue icons are AAA Approved hotels, and as you can see, there are few lodgings right near Golden Gate Park where the Academy is located. The only one nearby in the Stanyan Park Hotel, a boutique-style hotel. If you would be more comfortable staying in a more traditional or upscale environment, zoom out slightly to see the many choices to the east of the park closer to downtown. Click on the icons to see the Diamond Rating and description and to check rates and availability right from the map. There are so many, if you have no budget limitations, treat yourself to a Four or Five Diamond experience like the Fairmont or Omni and ask the concierge to arrange transportation for you.

I take 6 different types of medication every day and am flying to Vegas. Can I put all my meds for 4 days in one bottle?
Though it is tempting to try to save space in your carry-on bag, it is better to keep your medication in the original bottles with the prescription information to pass through security. A good article can be found
here.
